Regular Season Round 11: Tskhum-Abkhazeti - Mgzavrebi 85-83 OT

Eleventh-ranked Mgzavrebi (1-5) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Tskhum-Abkhazeti (5-3) in Tbilisi. Tskhum-Abkhazeti managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected much easier game. Mgzavrebi was ahead by 9 points after three quarters before a 21-12 charge of Tskhum-Abkhazeti, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-9. Tskhum-Abkhazeti outrebounded Mgzavrebi 55-42 including 20 on the offensive glass. Mgzavrebi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for international forward Aleksandre Phevadze (206-98) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 23 rebounds. Swingman Nika Chechelashvili (195-99) accounted for 22 points for the winning side. Four Tskhum-Abkhazeti players scored in double figures. American guard Troy Steward (195-96, college: Georgetown, KY) came up with 24 points and 4 assists and Canadian guard Jadon Cohee (193-96, college: UBC) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively for Mgzavrebi in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Tskhum-Abkhazeti maintains fourth place with 5-3 record. Mgzavrebi at the other side stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Tskhum-Abkhazeti will play against Vera (#7) in the next round. Mgzavrebi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Olimpi.
