Regular Season Round 7: Al Arabi - Al Rayyan 86-75

Bottom-ranked Al Rayyan (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 86-75 loss to second ranked Al Arabi (6-1) in Doha on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Al Arabi looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Kevin Murphy (197-90, college: Tenn Tech) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international swingman Khalid Suliman Abdi (198-87) helped adding 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy) responded with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and the other American import Tavarion Nix (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Al Arabi. They maintain second place with 6-1 record having just one point less than leader Al Gharafa. Al Rayyan lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Shamal.
