Regular Season Round 9: Lavrio - AEK 78-70

The biggest surprise took place in Lavrio where host Lavrio (5-3) beat league's leader AEK (7-1) 78-70 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of AEK. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But AEK won second period 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 24 personal fouls committed by AEK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Tyson Carter (193-98, college: MSU, agency: David Lee Services) who scored 19 points. The former international forward Vasileios Mouratos (193-97) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Angolan center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 30 points and 8 rebounds and American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) added 20 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lavrio have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. AEK at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Panathinaikos. AEK will play next round against Kolossos HH trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Lavrio will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Panathinaikos in Athens.
