The game between third ranked CB Canarias (14-4) and nineteenth ranked Gipuzkoa (3-15) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. CB Canarias was edged by Gipuzkoa in a tough game in San Sebastian 87-89. Gipuzkoa shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. American point guard Johnny Dee (183-92, college: San Diego) fired 20 points (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. The former international forward Pere Tomas (202-89) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) produced 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field) and American power forward Tyler Cavanaugh (206-94, college: GWU) added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Gipuzkoa maintains nineteenth place with 3-15 record. CB Canarias at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Baskonia. Gipuzkoa are looking forward to face higher ranked Joventut (#7) in Badalona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CB Canarias will play on the road against Gran Canaria (#12) in Las Palmas and is hoping to win this game.
