Regular Season Round 11: Panathinaikos - AEK 80-75

Round 11 most important game was a defeat of league's leader AEK (8-2). They were defeated by second ranked Panathinaikos (8-1) 80-75 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But AEK won third quarter 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded AEK 39-23 including a 28-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international center Georgios Papagiannis (220-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international forward Konstantinos Mitoglou (210-96, college: Wake Forest, agency: Wasserman) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Angolan center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four AEK players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. AEK at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Panathinaikos. AEK will play next round against Ionikos Nikaias trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Panathinaikos will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Larissa BC on the road.
