Very predictable result when fourth ranked CB Canarias (15-4) rolled over 12th ranked Gran Canaria (7-12) in Las Palmas 108-87 on Saturday. CB Canarias shot 68.3 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Gran Canaria turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. CB Canarias looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American swingman Spencer Butterfield (191-92, college: Utah St.) who scored that evening 21 points and 5 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Bosnian-Finnish power forward Emir Sulejmanovic (204-95) supported him with 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Four CB Canarias players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American guard Sean Kilpatrick (193-90, college: Cincinnati) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CB Canarias moved-up to third place, which they share with Baskonia. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. CB Canarias will meet at home La ICL Manresa (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Gran Canaria will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#16) in Madrid and hope to secure a win.
