Regular Season Round 5: Nika - TTT Riga 68-71

Important game to mention about took place in Syktyvkar. Leader Latvian TTT Riga (4-0) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Russian Nika (2-2) 71-68 on Monday evening. Nika was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 21-15 third quarter run of TTT Riga. Strangely Nika outrebounded TTT Riga 41-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Nika was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Jessica Thomas (168-94, college: Miami, FL) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 assists for the winners and Latvian forward Kitija Laksa (186-96, college: S.Florida, agency: Wasserman) chipped in 14 points. Alexandra Marchenkova (185-94, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and Maria Cherepanova (190-87) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. TTT Riga have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Latvian champion keeps a position of league leader. Newly promoted Nika keeps the fifth place with two games lost. TTT Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nika will play on the road against Kibirkstis (#4) in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
