Regular Season Round 7: Akademik P. - Beroe 89-88

The most exciting game of round 7 in the Balkan League took place in Plovdiv. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Beroe (5-4) to first ranked Academik Plovdiv (8-2) 89-88 in the game for the first place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Beroe. Academik Plovdiv looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian forward Jere Vucica (206-92, college: Miami, OH) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. Bosnian center Obrad Tomic (207-93, agency: PEPI SPORT) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Academik Plovdiv's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Pavel Marinov (199-88) answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Derric Jean (188-97, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Players Group) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Beroe. Four Academik Plovdiv and five Beroe players scored in double figures. Academik Plovdiv maintains first place with 8-2 record. Beroe at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Kumanovo. Academik Plovdiv will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Beroe will play on the road against Kumanovo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
