There was no surprise when 13th ranked Phoenix Hagen (4-12) was defeated on the road by third ranked Science City Jena (10-3) 87-82 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Science City Jena dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix Hagen's 30 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Science City Jena looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Phoenix Hagen was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was center Robin Lodders (206-94) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Julius Wolf (203-93) chipped in 20 points. Science City Jena's coach Frank Menz used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Center Marcel Kessen (207-97) produced 13 points and 6 rebounds and Jannik Lodders (198-92) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Science City Jena have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Phoenix Hagen lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 12 games lost.
