Regular Season Round 23: Tenerife - Baskonia 79-81

The most exciting game of round 23 in the Liga Endesa took place in Tenerife. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed CB Canarias (17-5) to fourth ranked Baskonia (17-5) 81-79 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of CB Canarias. Baskonia made 18-of-18 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Baskonia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Italian center Achille Polonara (202-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Nigerian center Tonye Jekiri (212-94, college: Miami, FL, agency: Network Sports International) contributed with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) answered with 17 points and 5 rebounds and Uruguayan point guard Bruno Fitipaldo (183-91, agency: Pro Sports) added 11 points and 6 assists in the effort for CB Canarias. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Tenerife. Baskonia is looking forward to face Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#15) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. CB Canarias will play on the road against Blusens Monbus (#14) in Santiago de Comp and is hoping to win this game.
