Regular Season Round 24: Gipuzkoa - Bilbao 74-97
Date: February 27, 2021
Bottom-ranked Bilbao managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the five-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time they outleveled eighteenth-ranked Gipuzkoa in San Sebastian 97-74. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 23-point difference suggests that Bilbao is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. They shot 61.7 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 63.6 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of Czech center Ondrej Balvin (217-92, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Swedish point guard Ludvig Hakanson (190-96, agency: Octagon Europe) who added 17 points and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) during the contest. Five Bilbao players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Johnny Dee (183-92, college: San Diego) with 12 points and guard Xavi Oroz (192-96) scored 6 points and 8 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bilbao maintains nineteenth position with 5-18 record. Newly promoted Gipuzkoa dropped to the seventeenth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Real Betis. Bilbao are looking forward to face higher ranked Real Betis (#17) in Sevilla in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gipuzkoa will play on the road against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
