Regular Season Round 20: Algeciras - Zamorano 80-66

There was an upset when higher ranked Zamorano (10-9) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked Algeciras (7-13) 80-66 on Saturday. Algeciras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Zamorano's 24. They outrebounded Zamorano 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was power forward Yago Estevez (204-91) who scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Senegalese swingman Issa Thiam (208-96, college: Rutgers) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Four Algeciras players scored in double figures. American guard Bryce Canda (193-95, college: Portland St.) produced 19 points and forward Mario Alvarez (201-91, agency: BIG) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Algeciras moved-up to twelfth place in Silver. Loser Zamorano dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Algeciras will face higher ranked Ponferrada (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
