Regular Season Round 18: TSU - Olimpi 68-78
Date: March 6, 2021
The biggest surprise of round 18 was guest Olimpi's (#3) road victory over TSU (#4) 78-68 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Olimpi. TSU managed to win fourth quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olimpi had a 35-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olimpi made 7 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by TSU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Donovan Smith (208, college: Quinnipiac) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. The other American import forward Devante Foster (203-98, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Brandon Sly (180-96, college: ASU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international swingman Mikhail Chochua (193-87) added 20 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. TSU's coach Leqso Lapanashvili rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Olimpi (8-6) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position having three points less than leader Rustavi. TSU lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Batumi. Olimpi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. TSU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Cactus.
