Regular Season Round 29: Kyiv Basket - Budivelnyk 94-90
Date: March 14, 2021
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kyiv: Kyiv Basket (#1) and Budivelnyk (#7). Despite it looked like an easy game for Kyiv Basket, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Budivelnyk challenged much higher ranked Kyiv Basket giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by four points 94-90. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-90. Kyiv Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Budivelnyk's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Bruce Massey (190-90, college: MTSU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. International center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-94, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) answered with 27 points and 9 assists and American forward Brice Johnson (206-94, college: UNC) added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Budivelnyk. Five Kyiv Basket and four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kyiv Basket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 21-5 record. Budivelnyk at the other side keeps the seventh position with 14 games lost. Kyiv Basket are looking forward to face Khimik (#6) in Yuzhny in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Budivelnyk will play at home against the league's second-placed Prometey and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
