Regular Season Round 31: Zalgiris - Maccabi T-A 81-88

An interesting game took place in Kaunas where 11th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (15-16) were upset on its own court by fourteenth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (12-17) 88-81 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 7 points. Maccabi T-A made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American point guard Chris Jones (188-93, college: Angelo St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 13 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. American-Turkish guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-93, college: Florida, agency: BeoBasket) helped adding 12 points. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Nigel Hayes (203-94, college: Wisconsin) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and guard Marius Grigonis (198-94) scored 14 points and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Israeli champion moved-up to thirteenth place. Zalgiris lost their fourth game in a row. Defending Lithuanian champion keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Maccabi T-A will face league's leader FC Barcelona at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
