There was no surprise in Leverkusen where 8th ranked Kirchheim Knights (14-13) were defeated by fifth ranked Bayer Giants (16-10) 105-94 on Saturday. Bayer Giants shot 61.8 percent from the field and made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 66.7 percentage. Bayer Giants looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Kirchheim Knights were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American JJ Mann (198-91, college: Belmont) who scored 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Haris Hujic (193-97) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists. American Kyle Leufroy (190-96, college: Lehigh) produced 23 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Nico Brauner (187-94, college: St.Mary's) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Four Kirchheim Knights players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Bayer Giants. They maintain fifth place with 16-10 record. Kirchheim Knights lost their third game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 13 games lost. Bayer Giants will face Walter Tigers (#13) in Tuebingen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kirchheim Knights will play at home against Lions (#11) and hope to win that game.
