Regular Season Round 23: Batumi - Kutaisi 90-101

Very expected game when 9th ranked Batumi (8-11) was defeated at home by second ranked Kutaisi (13-5) 101-90 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Kutaisi. Batumi managed to win fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kutaisi shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) who scored 29 points and 7 rebounds. The former international Akaki Dvalishvili (207-91) chipped in 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). American guard Antwain Johnson (188-97, college: Buffalo, agency: Green Sports Management) produced 16 points and 5 assists and Serbian guard Nemanja Kapetanovic (197-97) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Kutaisi and five Batumi players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kutaisi maintains second place with 13-5 record having just one point less than leader Rustavi. Defending champion Batumi dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with TSU. Kutaisi will meet at home Cactus (#4) in the next round. Batumi will have a break next round.
