Venezuela defeated Dominican Republic to celebrate the opening victory at the tournament. Venezuela jumped off to a 20-11 lead after ten minutes. They followed with a 20-11 run in the third period to secure a 16-point lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Yosimar Corrales and Daniela Wallen produced 19 points apiece for Venezuela. Yohanna Morton answered with 13 points for Dominican Republic.
