There was a surprise result when EWE Baskets edged Crailsheim Merlins in Oldenburg 82-79 on Wednesday. American power forward Tai Odiase (206-95, college: UIC) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Israeli-American guard Max Heidegger (191-97, college: UCSB) supported him with 16 points and 7 assists. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 23 points by American forward Jaren Lewis (198-96, college: ACU) did not help to save the game for Crailsheim Merlins. His fellow American import point guard TJ Shorts (175-97, college: UC Davis) added 15 points and 5 assists for the guests. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets will meet s Oliver Baskets in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Crailsheim Merlins will play against MBC in Weissenfels and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
