Regular Season Round 3: Budivelnyk - Khimik 76-72

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Superleague took place in Kyiv where host Budivelnyk (2-1) beat Khimik (2-1) 76-72 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 23-6 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Budivelnyk dominated on the defensive end, holding Khimik to just 6 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Khimik's 30. They outrebounded Khimik 52-38 including 38 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Khimik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Gian Clavell (193-93, college: Colorado St.) who scored 31 points and 8 rebounds. American center Drew Gordon (206-90, college: N.Mexico, agency: Network Sports International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Budivelnyk's coach Igors Miglinieks used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Christian Jones (201-93, college: UNLV, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and forward Oleksandr Antypov (203-95) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. Khimik will play next round against Mykolaiv trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Budivelnyk will try to continue on its current victory against Zaporizhye in Zaporozhye.
