Regular Season Round 1: Rapid - Focsani 84-77

Rapid used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Focsani 84-77 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 26-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Rapid dominated on the defensive end, holding Focsani to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Focsani 39-23 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rapid looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Eric Copes (203-93, college: Z*Orangeville A's, agency: Mansfield and Associates) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Mikey Hope (186-91, college: ASU) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Rapid players scored in double figures. Rapid's coach Marius Bulancea allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American power forward Justin Baker (203-89, college: Utah Valley) responded with 23 points and Russian-Belarusian forward Aliaksandr Pustahvar (201-85) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Rapid will meet Ploiesti CSM on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Focsani will play against Miercurea Ciuc and hope to win that game.
