Regular Season Round 7: Mykolaiv - Budivelnyk 76-93

Very expected game when 9th ranked Mykolaiv (3-6) lost at home to second ranked Budivelnyk (6-3) 93-76 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Budivelnyk. Mykolaiv managed to win fourth quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Budivelnyk looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Puerto Rican guard Gian Clavell (193-93, college: Colorado St.) who led the winners and scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American center Drew Gordon (206-90, college: N.Mexico, agency: Network Sports International) accounted for 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. American guard Prentiss Nixon (183-97, college: Iowa St., agency: Green Sports Management) came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Sam Daniel (203-96, college: Florida Tech) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mykolaiv in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Budivelnyk. They maintain second place with 6-3 record having just one point less than leader Prometey, which they share with Khimik and K.Sokoly. Loser Mykolaiv dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Zaporizhye and Odessa. Budivelnyk will meet at home bottom-ranked Ternopil-TNEU (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mykolaiv will play against Dnipro (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
