Regular Season Round 6: Gran Canaria - Real Betis 94-70
Date: October 17, 2021
Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Gran Canaria (4-2) outplayed bottom-ranked Real Betis (1-5) in Las Palmas 94-70 on Sunday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Real Betis' 22 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Real Betis 33-21 including 21 on the defensive glass. American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) notched 13 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) to lead the effort and Argentinian Nicolas Brussino (205-93) supported him with 15 points. Even 10 points and 6 assists by American point guard Shannon Evans II (185-94, college: Arizona St.) did not help to save the game for Real Betis. His fellow American import forward Vitto Brown (203-95, college: Wisconsin) added 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to third place, which they share with Murcia and Tenerife. Real Betis lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. They share it with Bilbao and Fuenlabrada. Gran Canaria will meet league's second-placed Real Madrid on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Real Betis will play against Obradoiro (#14) and hope to win that game.
