There was an upset when higher ranked E.Ashkelon (2-2) was defeated at home by fourteenth ranked M.Haifa (1-3) 83-79 on Monday. M.Haifa dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to E.Ashkelon's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Raphiael Putney (207-90, college: UMass) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized Ghanian guard Chris Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) who added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Smith is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four M.Haifa players scored in double figures. At the losing side American JR Holder (198-94, college: Jacksonville) responded with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized French point guard Arthur Rozenfeld (181-95) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. M.Haifa left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with M.Hod Hasharon. Loser E.Ashkelon keeps the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. M.Haifa will meet at home higher ranked M.Ashdod (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. E.Ashkelon will play against Hapoel H/M (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
