Regular Season Round 9: Liege - Aalst 70-55

One of the most interesting games of round 9 was a derby match between two teams from Belgium. Eighth ranked Liege Basket won against visiting Okapi Aalst (4-4) 70-55. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Okapi Aalst. They outrebounded Okapi Aalst 43-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. Center Justin Kohajda (207-96) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and Ivorian-German guard Bazoumana Kone (193-93, college: Bremerhaven) accounted for 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Liege Basket's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Omar Calhoun (198-93, college: UConn) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the other American import Shavon Coleman (196-92, college: LSU) added 8 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Okapi Aalst in the defeat. Liege Basket maintains eighth place with 2-5 record, which they share with Yoast Utd. Loser Okapi Aalst dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Liege Basket will meet higher ranked Spirou Charleroi (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Okapi Aalst will play against the league's second-placed Antwerp Giants where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
