Regular Season Round 11: Tenerife - Gran Canaria 98-89

The game between third ranked Gran Canaria (7-4) and fourth ranked Tenerife (8-3) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Gran Canaria was defeated by Tenerife in a tough game in Tenerife 89-98. They made 28-of-33 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Gran Canaria helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Canadian power forward Kyle Wiltjer (206-92, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Five Tenerife players scored in double figures. American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds and Polish-American AJ Slaughter (191-87, college: WKU) added 20 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tenerife have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Gran Canaria at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Valencia and Murcia. Tenerife are looking forward to face Manresa (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gran Canaria will play against Burgos (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
