Regular Season Round 5: Tallina U. - TTT Riga 44-58

Not a big story in a game in Tallinn where 6th ranked Estonian Tallina U. (2-4) was defeated by leader Latvian TTT Riga (5-0) 58-44 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by TTT Riga. Tallina U. managed to win fourth quarter 12-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tallina U. to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. TTT Riga held Tallina U. to an opponent 24.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 31.5 percent accuracy of the winners. TTT Riga forced 23 Tallina U. turnovers and outrebounded them 48-36 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Lithuanian center Daugile Sarauskaite (196-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Jasmine Thomas (175-91, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 7 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and guard Merike Anderson (180-81) scored 11 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for TTT Riga. Defending Latvian champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Kibirkstis. Loser Tallina U. dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Aistes-LSMU. TTT Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tallina U. will play against RSU (#5) in Riga and hope to secure a win.
