Regular Season Round 17: CSKA Junior - Samara-2 70-65

Very expected game in Moscow where 11th ranked Samara-2 (4-13) was defeated by sixth ranked CSKA Junior (10-5) 70-65 on Wednesday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Samara-2 trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 17-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 65-70 at the end of the game. CSKA Junior looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Power forward Daniil Kirilyuk (204-3) stepped up and scored 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and center Dmitry Khalturin (210-2) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four CSKA Junior players scored in double figures. Guard Serafim Shkurin (187-2) responded with 11 points and 4 assists and guard Alexander Melnikov (186-2) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CSKA Junior have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Khimki-2. Loser Samara-2 dropped to the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with N.Novgorod-2. CSKA Junior will again meet at home bottom-ranked Samara-2 (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Samara-2 will have a break next round.
