There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked German ALBA Berlin (5-8) won against at home 4th placed Italian Milano (8-5) 81-76 on Friday. Milano trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 20-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 76-81 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Milano 41-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and point guard Maodo Lo (191-92, college: Columbia) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Spanish guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) responded with 8 points and 6 assists and Danish forward Shavon Shields (201-94, college: Nebraska) scored 9 points and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending German champion moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Monaco and Crvena Zvezda. Milano lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with CSKA and Zenit. ALBA Berlin will meet Panathinaikos (#17) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Milano will play against Monaco (#13) and hope to secure a win.
