Rather expected game when 17th ranked Huesca (1-9) was smashed on the road by fifteenth ranked Girona (3-7) 89-47 on Friday. Girona dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Huesca's 26 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Girona forced 22 Huesca turnovers and outrebounded them 42-25 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international center Marc Gasol (216-85) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Eric Vila (211-98, college: UTEP) supported him with 12 points. Even 6 points and 5 rebounds by forward Jorge Lafuente (197-91) did not help to save the game for Huesca. Jaime Fernandez (206-0) added 7 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Girona moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Prat and Juaristi ISB. Loser Huesca keeps the seventeenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Palma. Girona will meet higher ranked Palencia (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Huesca will play against the league's second-placed Oviedo (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
