Regular Season Round 8: Gran Canaria 2 - Cornella 65-78

Everything could happen in Las Palmas at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Cornella and 9th ranked Gran Canaria 2 had identical 3-4 record. But Gran Canaria 2 was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Cornella 78-65 on Saturday night. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Raimon Carrasco (188-99) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Jose Alberto Jimenez (197-96) who added 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Guard Alberto Moreno (190-96, college: A&M-Commerce) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Turkish guard Sarper Mutaf (197-2, college: Minnesota) scored 13 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cornella (4-4) moved-up to eighth place in Silver. Loser Gran Canaria 2 dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Cornella will meet at home league's second-placed Cartagena in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gran Canaria 2 will play against Menorca (#6) and hope to secure a win.
