Regular Season Round 18: Kyiv Basket - Budivelnyk 91-84

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kyiv: Kyiv Basket (#3) and Budivelnyk (#2). Kyiv Basket (12-4) won against visiting Budivelnyk (13-5) 91-84. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Budivelnyk won third quarter 26-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kyiv Basket made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard Bernard Thompson (191-93, college: FGCU) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: LBSU, agency: Players Group) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) who recorded 15 points and 7 assists and American center Drew Gordon (206-90, college: N.Mexico, agency: Network Sports International) added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Kyiv Basket and four Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. Budivelnyk's coach Igors Miglinieks rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kyiv Basket have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-4 record having four points less than leader Prometey. Budivelnyk at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. Kyiv Basket are looking forward to face K.Sokoly (#4) in Kharkiv in the next round. Budivelnyk will have a break next round.
