There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Burgos (4-8) defeated higher ranked Gran Canaria (7-5) in Las Palmas 89-82 on Sunday. Burgos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by Serbian-Canadian center Dejan Kravic (210-90, college: Texas Tech) who scored that evening 23 points and 9 rebounds and Belarusian forward Maksim Salash (206-96) supported him with 12 points. Even 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by American point guard Chris Kramer (191-88, college: Purdue) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. Polish-American AJ Slaughter (191-87, college: WKU) added 12 points and 5 assists. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Burgos moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Obradoiro and Zaragoza. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Burgos will meet at home higher ranked Murcia (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gran Canaria will play against Manresa and hope to secure a win.
