Regular Season Round 9: Gran Canaria 2 - Menorca 60-71

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Menorca (6-3) defeated 10th ranked Gran Canaria 2 (3-6) in Las Palmas 71-60 on Sunday. Menorca outrebounded Gran Canaria 2 45-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. Forward Diego Alderete (197-0) nailed 9 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and Senegalese forward Makhtar Gueye (208-97, college: CBU) accounted for 8 points and 14 rebounds. Turkish guard Sarper Mutaf (197-2, college: Minnesota) came up with 22 points and guard Alberto Moreno (190-96, college: A&M-Commerce) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Gran Canaria 2 in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Menorca moved-up to third place in Silver. Loser Gran Canaria 2 keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Menorca will meet at home Cornella (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gran Canaria 2 will play against Mollet and hope to secure a win.
