Regular Season Round 17: Nevezis - Zalgiris 69-77

LKL top team - Zalgiris (14-1) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat ninth ranked Nevezis (3-10) in Kedainiai 77-69. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American power forward Tyler Cavanaugh (206-94, college: GWU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Arturas Milaknis (195-86) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Zalgiris' coach Jure Zdovc used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (196-90) answered with 19 points and Latvian Rihards Kuksiks (201-88, college: Arizona St.) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Nevezis. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-1 record. Nevezis lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with ten games lost. Zalgiris will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nevezis will play on the road against P.Zvaigzdes (#10) in Pasvalys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
