There was no surprise in Bucuresti where 15th ranked Rapid (3-10) was defeated by sixth ranked Timisoara (7-6) 79-61 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Timisoara. Rapid managed to win fourth quarter 16-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Rapid 46-34 including 35 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Timisoara made 7 blocks. Serbian-Bosnian swingman Nikola Gajic (195-91, college: SF Austin) stepped up and scored 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Bulgarian Ivan Lilov (194-88) chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Timisoara players scored in double figures. At the losing side international Luca Vasile (192-1) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Erik Copes (203-93, college: Z*Orangeville A's, agency: Inception Sports) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Timisoara maintains sixth place with 7-6 record. Newly promoted Rapid dropped to the fourteenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Galati. Timisoara will meet at home league's second-placed Oradea in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rapid will play against Miercurea Ciuc (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
