Regular Season Round 17: Leuven - Aalst 103-73

One of the most interesting games of round 17 was a derby match between two teams from Belgium. Fourth ranked Leuven Bears outleveled visiting Okapi Aalst (4-8) 103-73. Leuven Bears dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Okapi Aalst's 26 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Okapi Aalst 47-23 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Leuven Bears looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Okapi Aalst's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Nick McGlynn (206-96, college: Drake) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Thibault Vanderhaegen (202-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Lithuanian guard Paulius Valinskas (191-95) produced 28 points and forward Siebe Ledegen (199-3) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leuven Bears have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Zwolle. Okapi Aalst lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. Leuven Bears will meet Phoenix Brussels (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Okapi Aalst will play against the league's second-placed Antwerp Giants and hope to secure a win.
