Regular Season Round 15: Hagen-Haspe - Herford 65-102

Everything went according to plan when first ranked Herford (13-2) outleveled on the road 9th ranked Hagen-Haspe (6-8) 102-65 on Saturday. Herford dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Hagen-Haspe's 32. Herford forced 26 Hagen-Haspe turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Piet Niehus (189-98) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 6 assists. Lithuanian forward Dainius Zvinklys (203-90) helped adding 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Herford players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Daniel Westbrook (208-95, college: Barton, NC) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and forward Oscar Luchterhandt (195-91) scored 6 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Hagen-Haspe's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Herford maintains first place in West with 13-2 record. Newly promoted Hagen-Haspe dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Herford will meet at home Bonn 2 (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hagen-Haspe will play against Hertener Loewen (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
