Regular Season Round 24: Kyiv Basket - Mykolaiv 96-61

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Mykolaiv (4-19) was crushed on the road by third ranked Kyiv Basket (15-7) 96-61 on Sunday. The game without a history. Kyiv Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Kyiv Basket outrebounded Mykolaiv 43-27 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kyiv Basket made 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Bernard Thompson (191-93, college: FGCU) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 7 assists and the other American import forward Jeff Garrett (201-94, college: LSUS) who added 10 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Andre Walker (186-96, college: Loyola, MD) with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Nigerian guard Zaid Hearst (194-92, college: Quinnipiac) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kyiv Basket maintains third position with 15-7 record having nine points less than leader Prometey. Mykolaiv lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 19 games lost. Kyiv Basket will meet at home Odessa (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Mykolaiv will play against Zaporizhye (#7) in Zaporozhye and hope to secure a win.
