Regular Season Round 18: Groningen - Hague 85-58

One of the most interesting games of round 18 was a derby match between two teams from Holland. Fifth ranked Groningen outleveled visiting Hague (1-15) 85-58. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Hague's 30. Groningen forced 28 Hague turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Hague's players. It was a good game for Nigerian-American power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Donte Thomas (201-96, college: Bradley) contributed with 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. Groningen's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Casey Lopes (190-97) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and swingman Jens Te Velde (193-97) added 18 points in the effort for Hague. Groningen (8-5) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Leuven. Hague lost fourteenth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Groningen will play against Amsterdam (#8) on the road in the next round. Hague will play against BAL Weert and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
