Regular Season Round 16: Focsani - Rapid 75-71

There was no surprise when 16th ranked Rapid (3-12) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Focsani (6-10) 75-71 on Wednesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 4 points. Focsani outrebounded Rapid 32-19 including 21 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Onno Steger (196, college: WCU) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and the other American import forward Demetris Morant (206-92, college: FGCU) who added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. Morant is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Serbian forward Nikola Stanojevic (203-90) responded with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Erik Copes (203-93, college: Z*Orangeville A's, agency: Inception Sports) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Focsani and five Rapid players scored in double figures. Rapid's coach Marius Bulancea tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Focsani moved-up to eleventh place. Rapid lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. They share it with Miercurea Ciuc. Focsani will meet Miercurea Ciuc (#15) on the road in the next round. Rapid will play against Ploiesti CSM and hope to secure a win.
