No shocking result in a game in Crailsheim where eighth ranked Hakro Merlins (11-6) defeated bottom-ranked EWE Baskets (2-12) 97-86 on Saturday. Hakro Merlins made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Hakro Merlins especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American point guard TJ Shorts (175-97, college: UC Davis) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Jaren Lewis (198-96, college: ACU) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Shorts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American power forward Tai Odiase (206-95, college: UIC) with 16 points and 7 rebounds and international point guard Bennet Hundt (180-98) scored 15 points. Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hakro Merlins moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Chemnitz. EWE Baskets lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Hakro Merlins will meet Brose Bamberg (#11) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. EWE Baskets will play against the league's second-placed Telekom Baskets (#2) and hope to secure a win.
