Regular Season Round 9: Laguna S. - Sibiu 2 77-75

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Liga I took place in Bucuresti. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Sibiu 2 (5-4) to third ranked Laguna S. (7-2) 77-75 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Sibiu 2. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sibiu 2 won fourth quarter 26-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Laguna S. forced 21 Sibiu 2 turnovers and outrebounded them 38-20 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Serbian forward Ilija Stefanovic (208-98, college: Longwood) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Luka Stefanovic chipped in 24 points and 9 rebounds. Laguna S.'s coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Luca Nastrut (193-3, agency: BIG) who recorded 23 points and 8 rebounds and Anton Rotaru (188-2) added 24 points respectively. Laguna S. maintains third place with 7-2 record behind leader Targu Mures. Sibiu 2 at the other side keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Laguna S. are looking forward to face Iasi (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sibiu 2 will play against Oradea 2 (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
