The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Avenida as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Avenida defeated 3rd ranked Valencia in Salamanca 72-68. Avenida made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Strangely Valencia outrebounded Avenida 39-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. British-American forward Katie Samuelson (190-97, college: UConn) scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Kahleah Copper (186-94, college: Rutgers) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Avenida's coach Roberto Iniguez used entire bench in such tough game. The best for the losing side was international center Laura Gil (190-92) with 19 points and 9 rebounds and German center Marie Guelich (194-94, college: Oregon St.) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Avenida (14-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Valencia at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. Valencia will play next round against Bembibre trying to get back on the winning streak. Avenida will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Gernika on the road.
