There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Taranto (10-7) defeated at home 6th ranked Sant Antimo (9-7) 72-68 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was power forward Riziero Ponziani (204-94) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Biagio Sergio (200-86) chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Riccardo Coviello (195-88, agency: SLN) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Argentinian power forward Enzo Cena (200-92, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Taranto. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ragusa and Senigallia. Loser Sant Antimo dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Taranto will meet higher ranked Salerno (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sant Antimo will play against Cassino and hope to secure a win.
