Rather expected game when 11th ranked Zentro Basket (4-11) lost to ninth ranked Real Canoe (5-9) in Madrid 88-96 on Saturday. Strangely Zentro Basket outrebounded Real Canoe 57-44 including 20 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by point guard Daniel de la Rua (181-97) who scored that evening 24 points and 4 assists and Alfonso Ortiz (190-99) supported him with 26 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) by Belgian center Vincent Gielen (208-0) did not help to save the game for Zentro Basket. American forward Zachary Tavitian (203-99, college: W.New England) added 15 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Four Zentro Basket players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Real Canoe maintains ninth position in Silver with 5-9 record. Newly promoted Zentro Basket dropped to the twelfth place with 11 games lost. Real Canoe will meet at home Gran Canaria 2 (#11) in the next round. Zentro Basket will play against La Roda and hope to secure a win.
