Regular Season Round 36: Zenit-2 - CSKA Junior 68-73
Date: February 17, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Sankt Petersburg where one of their biggest challengers Zenit-2 (23-11) was defeated by fifth ranked CSKA Junior (23-13) 73-68 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zenit-2 won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CSKA Junior looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Kirill Petukhov (203-2004) who helped to win the game recording 11 points and 9 rebounds and forward Anton Petukhov (203-2003) who added 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four CSKA Junior players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Pavel Zemskiy (201-2004) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and center Dmitriy Ivanov (205-2003) scored 9 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Loser Zenit-2 dropped to the third position with 11 games lost. CSKA Junior will meet Avtodor-2 (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Zenit-2 will play against N.Novgorod-2 (#8) in Nizhny Novgorod and hope to secure a win.
