There was a small surprise in Las Palmas where thirteenth ranked Gran Canaria 2 (6-14) smashed 11th ranked Alginet (7-11) 93-68 on Sunday. They outrebounded Alginet 47-33 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was center Ruben Lopez (203-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Turkish guard Sarper Mutaf (197-2002, college: Minnesota) chipped in 23 points. Jon Galarza (195-1997) produced 15 points and power forward Javier Nicolau (208-1997, college: UMC) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Alginet's coach Jose Canales gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Gran Canaria 2 maintains thirteenth position in Silver with 6-14 record. Newly promoted Alginet dropped to the tenth place with 11 games lost. Gran Canaria 2 will meet higher ranked Cornella (#8) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Alginet will play against Cartagena and hope to secure a win.
