Regular Season Round 19: DSN - A.Kraukla/VEF 78-41

One of the most interesting games of round 19 was a derby match between two teams from Latvia. The game took place in Riga where fifteenth ranked DSN outleveled visiting A.Kraukla/VEF (1-4) 78-41. The game was mostly controlled by DSN. A.Kraukla/VEF was better in third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding A.Kraukla/VEF to just 4 points in first quarter. DSN dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to A.Kraukla/VEF's 26. They outrebounded A.Kraukla/VEF 49-17 including a 23-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Kristers Skrinda (200-2006) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 4 assists. Forward Karlis Vavers (196-2006) accounted for 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Toms Gusarovs came up with 12 points and Ralfs Ornins added 6 points respectively for A.Kraukla/VEF in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. DSN (7-2) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. A.Kraukla/VEF at the other side dropped to the 42th position with four games lost. DSN will play against league's second-placed VKM in Vilnius in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. A.Kraukla/VEF will play at home against Bertans (#34) to get more than just one victory in their record.
