Second Stage Round 9: Opava - Brno 74-87

The biggest surprise of round 9 in NBL was guest Brno's (21-9) road victory over second-best Opava (20-10) 87-74 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The best player for the winners was American power forward Hunter Mickelson (208-1992, college: Kansas) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Naturalized Slovakian point guard Roman Marko (192-1986) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Brno players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was center Martin Gniadek (203-1990) who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Jakub Sirina (186-1987, agency: Octagon Europe) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Opava's coach Petr Czudek rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Brno have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Opava lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with ten games lost. Brno are looking forward to face Pardubice (#5) at home in the next round. Opava will play against Kolin and is hoping to win this game.
